Board Appoints High School Principal

(June 2, 2008) The Yorktown Central School District Board of Education appointed Mr. Joseph DeGennaro principal of Yorktown High School, effective July 1, 2008.

Mr. DeGennaro, a Yorktown resident, has been the Assistant Principal at Irvington High School for the past eight years. Prior to his position in Irvington, Mr. DeGennaro was the Athletic Director at Hastings High School. Board of Education President Mrs. Jackie Carbone and Mr. DeGennaro are pictured above following his appointment at the Board's June 2, 2008 meeting.

Mr. DeGennaro's appointment is the result of an extensive principal search which began on April 7th, 2008 and concluded with a site visit to Irvington schools on May 28th. Over the month and a half, an external consulting company directed the process, guiding three collaborative search committees made up of community members, teachers, students, administrators, staff and parents. Through the process, Mr. DeGennaro consistently rose to the top and was unanimously chosen by all three committees.
