Laura Tolosi, a
registered dietician, has been appointed Director of Wellness for the Yorktown Central School District. Ms. Tolosi will be responsible for promoting district wellness policies, implementing wellness programs for students and staff, building community partnerships and seeking grants to support District goals. Her position is funded by proceeds from the school lunch program.
Ms. Tolosi hit the ground running as Westchester’s first school district Director of Wellness, “honored to live and work in a community that is making wellness a priority.” She is a Yorktown alumna who holds a Masters degree in Nutrition. She is also an experienced nutritionist, researcher, grant writer, lecturer, adjunct professor, author, and consultant.
The District’s Wellness Policy, developed by the Board of Education in collaboration with a broad based advisory committee, stresses the importance of a school environment that promotes and protects children’s health, well-being, and ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity.
