What is the budget to budget increase over 2008-2009?
1,476,000 or 1.67%. This is the lowest rate of increase in recent years.
What is the estimated tax rate increase?
2.6%
Are we going to get stimulus money? And if so, how much?
1.3 million dollars is being returned to the district thanks to the stimulus money. The money is being used to restore positions.
What is right sizing?
Right sizing is optimizing the number of staff with the number of students and responsibilities. Over the last five years, Yorktown’s enrollment has decreased by 325 students while the staff increased 30 positions. The District has had an obligation to be fiscally responsible and to bring these numbers in alignment and make them proportional to the size and functioning of the schools.
How many positions are being reduced?
The number of positions is not the same as the number of people. Approximately 23 positions will be reduced. The number of people is less.

Visitors can see budget PowerPoint presentations, review budget detail and submit comments. Board meetings and budget presentations also air on Cablevision Channel 18. How do I register? How can I find out if I am or am not registered to vote?
If you voted in the recent presidential election, then you are registered to vote. If not, you can call the Yorktown District Clerk, Liz Rotfeld at (914) 243 -8199 for registration information, or you can go to the District website for more information.
What programs will be affected by the new budget?
No school programs have been affected. There is no change to the music, art, extracurricular activities and athletic programs.
Is there a change to dollars being spent on instruction?
No. Yorkown spends 61 cents of every dollar on instruction, making it #3 out of the 44 schools in Westchester for dollars spent on instruction.
