On Exhibit: Brookside Young Artists

Brookside Art teacher Karen Richards displayed her 3rd, 4th and 5th grade student art work on the Y-ART walls located in the Administration building.

This exhibition included paintings, collages, line designs, prints, yarn drawings and name designs.

MUSICAL COLLAGES
Fourth graders created collages inspired from their study of African American artist Romare Bearden. Students created large scale musical instruments and shapes, cut them out and created visual representations of the music by overlapping them on construction paper.

YARN DESIGNS
Based on the Huichol Indians from Mexico, 5th graders created yarn paintings of animals from folk art using warm vibrant colors.

SHOE PRINTS
Studying lines, students used their shoes and sneakers to draw contour color lines and then create prints. They studied Andy Warhol's famous shoe paintings for direction.

NAME DESIGNS
Using their names as inspiration, students used oil pastels to create free form and symmetrically shapes.

RAINFORESTS:
Oil pastels and watercolors were used to paint rainforest animals. The 5th graders were studying rainforest ecology and paintings from Henri Rousseau.

CHINESE KITES
Studying the ancient art of calligraphy and Chinese culture, the Brookside artists used watercolors, regular pencils and watercolor pencils to draw and colorize Chinese characters and pictures in their kites.
