High School students Kavya Devarakonda and Jane Luceno were named semifinalists in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search. They were selected from chosen from 1,608 entrants representing 495 high schools throughout the country and overseas. scholar athletes will be playing in the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. High School science research student Vivek Patel was named a Siemens-Westinghouse Semifinalist for his research on "Generating Sox2-CreERTM transgenic mice to temporally control gene targeting in the developing and adult mouse central nervous system stem cells and progenitors." That mouthful, and this talented senior are making contributions to scientific breakthroughs that enhance the understanding of gene functions in the brain.>> More

Among the faces at Yorktown High School and Mildred E. Strang Middle School are police officers Thomas Nadoraski and Brian Mundy, both highly trained law enforcement veterans serving as School Resource Officers at the schools. Officer Nadorski is assigned to Yorktown High School. And, thanks to a grant facilitated by State Senator Vincent Liebell, Officer Mundy is serving at the Middle School. >> More
